Selling workshop equipment in Morocco: a practical guide for manufacturers

Published · 2 min read · Salem

For a workshop equipment manufacturer (vehicle lifts, A/C stations, wheel alignment, diagnostic or ADAS calibration equipment), Morocco is a gateway to Africa. But selling the machine is not enough: what builds a brand's reputation is installation, commissioning, operator training and on-site warranty.

A growing market that expects strong service

Morocco's automotive aftermarket is large and growing: spare parts alone are estimated at around 20 billion dirhams according to La Vie Éco. It is also highly fragmented across dealer networks, fast-fit centres, independent workshops and fleets.

Buyers compare prices, but above all the supplier's ability to install correctly, train their teams and respond quickly to breakdowns. A failed installation or an unanswered warranty claim costs far more than a lost sale.

Three ways to enter the market

  • Exclusive importer-distributor: buys, stocks and resells. Simple, but installation and service quality depend entirely on its technical resources.
  • Direct sales to key accounts (networks, fleets, dealers): better margins, but you need a local technical presence.
  • Sales distributor + technical partner: the distributor sells, a specialist partner installs, commissions, trains and handles warranty to your procedures.

The third model is often the most effective at the start: it avoids hiring a local team before you have volume, without sacrificing quality.

What to prepare before the first delivery

  • Compliance and import: technical files, certificates and declarations required at import. Check current requirements with your freight forwarder, including under Law 24-09 on product safety.
  • Power supply: Morocco's grid is 220 V single-phase and 380 V three-phase, 50 Hz. Plan the right versions and protections.
  • Language: manuals, interfaces and training in French. For operators, explanations in Moroccan Arabic help adoption.
  • Parts and consumables: a minimum local stock of wear parts, to avoid weeks of downtime.

From site survey to warranty: the service chain

  1. Pre-delivery site survey: power, floor and foundations, space, ventilation, safety.
  2. Installation following the manufacturer's procedures.
  3. Commissioning and safety tests, with a report signed by the customer.
  4. Operator training on site, and training for the distributor's technicians.
  5. Warranty and maintenance: on-site diagnosis, parts replacement, feedback to the factory.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a subsidiary in Morocco to sell equipment?

No. Many manufacturers start with a distributor and a local technical partner, then set up an entity when volumes justify it.

Is CE marking enough?

It is a good starting point, but import and product safety requirements are set by Moroccan regulations. Have them checked by your freight forwarder before the first shipment.

Do you work outside Morocco?

Yes, depending on the project, in other African countries from our Moroccan base.
